do you accept demos? we do accept demos from absolutely anybody who wants to send us one. we prefer getting demos via the internet, whether it is via myspace, personal website, free file-host, e-mail, etc. if you absolutely must send us a demo via the post, please send a message to the director of research on the information desk page for a current mailing address. do you actually listen to demos? yes, without fail, we listen to everything we get. however, we do not have time to respond regarding your demo unless we are absolutely interested in releasing it. allow about one week for a response. we are not a critique service, sorry. please forgive us this ultimately rude transgression and continue honing thy craft as though it were a sacrement to the holy ones. unless you are an emo band, in which case, stop whining and get a haircut. will you release my music on cd/vinyl/tape for sale? no. no, we will not release your awesome music. sorry. although we occasionally release products for sale, these are special arrangements with friends and we do not currently extend this service to anyone else. unless you are famous - then get in touch asap. so why would i send you a demo in the first place? because you would like to be involved with planetarium records research facility, a free-download netlabel. what's up with the atrium? the atrium contains music videos, short films, video clips, static images, zines, propaganda, etc, hand-picked for showcasing here on our site. yes, please send us materials that you would like to have featured in our atrium. it is much more likely that we will green-light something for inclusion in this section than our netlabel. please send us your music videos, mentos and soda experiments, commie literature, comic books and textbook collages right now. will you book a gig for my band? no way, jose. if i am included on your site, will i retain my rights to the music? absolutely, yes. you will always retain full rights to your music and we will not use your music for any commercial purposes without your permission. by contributing your work to our site, you are simply loaning it to us to present to the public. additionally, you are granting permission for us to facilitate the transfer of your work to anyone who wishes to access it. we claim no ownership or responsibility of any of the work generously donated to us. we will respect requests by artists who wish their music to be removed from our site, but we hope that you will think carefully before getting involved in the first place if you do not want your work to be here "indefinitely". your work may appear on other websites or via any other transfer/sharing medium. we are not interested in exclusivity; whatever you choose to do with your work in the future is up to you. will i make money from your site? no. we do not and will never charge for any of our downloadable content. how does planetarium records benefit from my work? besides enjoying it for what it is, we may benefit from the promotional arrangement we have from including your work on our site. since we do not make money on the music we put online for free, we have limited means of promotion. it is hoped that the artists can promote the site a little bit along with their music so that the other artists can benefit from that as well, but there are no rules or expectations. the only thing we're really asking is that you direct people to the page your music is on rather than directly link to the files so that the website is promoted a bit, that's all. what are your requirements for a net-release/lab? check out some of the labs already online to see what they are like. we need the following: - mp3's: 192kbps / CBR (constant-bit-rate) / stereo / 16-bit, 44100hz - printer-ready artwork. this can be jpg, bmp, or gif format. the important thing is that it is the following dimensions: 300dpi resolution / 4.75"x4.75" per panel (1425x1425pixels). if you're not sure what this means or aren't familiar with formatting artwork to this scale, please contact us and we wll gladly try to help you with any issues regarding the artwork. - some text. we would appreciate at least a few words to include on the web page that your release will be on. for example, this can be a description of your music, something about you, additional information, a story, recipes, a list of random words, reviews, anything you like. it can be as long or as short as you want. the idea is that we can include something to introduce your music on our page. you have the option of crediting planetarium records research facility for the release somewhere in the booklet. you will have a catalogue number and may include this information if you like. so far, all of the releases on our site mention the netlabel with something like this: "planetarium records research facility * lab119 * http://www.planetariumrecords.com/" this information is completely optional and we do not require that you include it. |
